5 Minutes from Dumfries
In Dumfries Town Centre, you’ll find the recently reopened Moat Brae House, the home of Peter Pan. JM Barrie lived here and this is where he had the inspiration for Peter Pan and the Enchanted Land. The house and gardens have been lovingly restored and are open to the public.
The Poet Robert Burns has a deep connection with Dumfries, moving here from Ayrshire, he farmed at Ellisland and later moved to the town centre. The house in which he died is open to the public (free entry). He is buried nearby in St Michael’s churchyard, also in the town centre.
John Paul Jones, whom many claim was the Father of the American Navy, was born in nearby Arbigland on the Solway Firth. His family cottage is now a museum.
The town’s Theatre Royal is the oldest working theatre in Scotland and was frequented by Burns himself.
